EUDR: the data your buyers will ask for

EUDR binds EU operators, so it reaches mills and estates as data requests from exporters and refiners. Sawitara Trace helps record that data from real weighbridge tickets.

Updated

What is required

Three conditions, one data trail

01

Deforestation-free

Produced on land not deforested after 31 December 2020.

02

Legal

Produced under the laws of the country of production: land rights, environment, forestry, third-party rights, labour, human rights and FPIC, tax, anti-corruption, customs.

03

Covered by a due diligence statement

The EU operator submits a DDS to the EU information system.

Due diligence information (Article 9)

  • Geolocation of every plot: latitude and longitude with at least 6 decimals; a polygon for plots above 4 hectares, a single point allowed up to 4 hectares.
  • Date or period of production.
  • Name and address of suppliers and, where relevant, buyers.
  • Adequately conclusive evidence of no deforestation, such as land cover analysis.
  • Proof of legality: in Indonesia e.g. land titles, concessions (HGU), STDB, plantation business and environmental permits.

European Commission guidance states that products mixed with material of unknown origin cannot be declared compliant, so mass balance as used in certification schemes does not meet EUDR; oil for EUDR buyers needs segregation.

Timeline

When it applies (as of 18 October 2026)

WhoApplies fromBasis
Large and medium operators, downstream operators, traders30 December 2026Regulation (EU) 2025/2650
Micro and small operators, individuals30 June 2027Regulation (EU) 2025/2650

The date has already been postponed twice (from 30 December 2024 and 30 December 2025). Indonesia is classified as standard risk, so EU operators apply full due diligence. Check the official EU sources before deciding.

Sawitara Trace

How Sawitara Trace helps

Origin is calculated from weighbridge tickets, not surveys. Each line states what exists today.

RequirementIn SawitaraStatus
Plot geolocationRegister of nucleus, plasma and third-party plots with GeoJSON validated on save (6 decimals, polygon above 4 ha, closed, non-self-intersecting).Available
LegalitySTDB register (number, issue date, issuing agency, document) and SHM/SKT/HGU land title with validity per plot, verified by a second officer with a reason when rejected.Available
Readiness per supplierEUDR readiness checklist per supplier or cooperative: share of plots with STDB, verified, and with polygons above 4 ha, with a list of incomplete plots. Cooperative boards see it in Tandan; growers see their farm status under My farm.Available
Deforestation-freeRecords screening results from the tool or provider you choose; TTP only counts plots that passed. Sawitara does not analyse satellite imagery.Available
Screening against reference layersYou upload forest cover as of 31 December 2020, forest/protected area and peat layers whose licence you hold (GeoJSON, KML, Shapefile); Sawitara computes each plot’s overlap area, percentage and distance, assigns No indication, Needs review or Overlap indicated by your thresholds, and records the layer version and the officer’s review with evidence. The result is an indication based on the uploaded layers, not a deforestation-free claim.Preview
Ticket-to-plot chainFFB weighbridge tickets and third-party purchases linked to plot codes; fruit without a plot is recorded as UNKNOWN, not blended in.Available
Input for the buyer’s DDSExport of the plot list as GeoJSON, CSV or XLSX.Available
Buyer read accessToken-based traceability API: plots, readiness, TTP and a DDS data pack per DO or contract (supplier plots in the production period, not physical segregation).Available
Per-shipment DDSGeoJSON of contributing plots with each plot’s share and allocation for one DO, computed as a mass balance allocation over the FFB in the lot’s production window. Not physical segregation.Preview
GeoJSON for the EUDR Information SystemOne FeatureCollection per DO following the EUDR GeoJSON File Description: WGS 84 coordinates with exactly 6 decimals, points for plots up to 4 ha and polygons above, ProducerCountry, ProductionPlace and Area properties, validated first (closed rings, no self-intersection, no holes, matching area), plus a CSV/PDF summary. Not yet test-uploaded to the EU system; the EU operator still submits the DDS.Preview
Lot verificationBuyers scan a QR on the DO and see the shipment’s product, mill, volume, traceability share to plots and EUDR readiness without supplier or price data (mass balance allocation).Preview

What we do not claim: Sawitara is not a certification body or a certified product, does not analyse satellite imagery or download third-party datasets (screening uses only the layers you upload), does not submit the DDS (the EU operator does) and does not guarantee compliance. Physical segregation of EUDR oil in tanks is managed by mill operations and is not tracked per tank in Sawitara.

Questions

EUDR questions

Must Indonesian mills comply with EUDR?

The legal obligation falls on operators and traders placing or exporting products on the EU market. Indonesian mills and estates are not directly obliged, but buyers selling into Europe will ask their suppliers for plot geolocation, evidence of no deforestation and proof of legality.

Is an RSPO or ISPO certificate enough?

Not automatically. A certificate can support the case, but EUDR due diligence still needs geolocation of every plot. Mass balance that mixes material of unknown origin does not meet EUDR.

Does Sawitara guarantee EUDR compliance?

No. Sawitara Trace records and prepares supplier data. Sawitara is not a certification body and gives no compliance guarantee.
